Getting photos from your computer into Traces

The photos from the museum outing are on the camera, the scanned homework is on the laptop, and so is the screenshot of the maths game. Traces, meanwhile, is installed on your phone. Here is how to move a photo from the computer to the phone, then into Traces, with pCloud.

Three steps. The first takes two minutes, the other two a few seconds per photo.

1. Putting the photos into pCloud, from the computer

Two ways, depending on what you have installed.

With pCloud Drive Open File Explorer: pCloud is there, under « This PC », next to your drives. Copy your photos into it, as into any folder. pCloud then sends them to your account, with nothing else to do.
Without installing anything Go to my.pcloud.com in your browser, sign in, then tap « Upload ». You can pick several photos at once by holding down the Ctrl key.

Put them in a folder of your own, « Temporary » for instance, at the root of your account. Not in École/Traces: that folder is written by the app.

Why not straight into École/Traces?

Because Traces writes into those folders, but never reads them. A photo dropped there by hand does not become a trace: no child, no subject, no comment, so nothing in the report or the portfolio. The filing goes one way only, from the app to your pCloud account.

2. Getting the photos onto the phone

Open the pCloud app on your phone and go to your « Temporary » folder. The photos copied from the computer are already there.

On Android Tap the three dots next to the photo, then « Download ». The photo is copied to the phone and appears in the gallery.
On iPhone Same menu, same « Download », and the photo goes into the Files app. You can also skip this step entirely: see the tip in point 3.

For several photos: press and hold the first one to enter selection mode, tick the others, then download the lot in one go.

3. Bringing the photo into Traces

  1. Open Traces, on the capture screen The one with the big « Take a photo » button.
  2. Tap « From the camera roll » The small button just below. That is the one that opens photos already taken instead of the camera.
  3. Pick your photo On iPhone, the menu offers « Photo Library » and « Choose File ». The second opens Files, where pCloud shows up if you have turned it on: the photo comes into Traces without being copied to the phone.
  4. Fill in the trace as usual The child, the subject, a comment, the competencies. Without them, the photo does not count in the report.
A trace is dated the day you add it

Traces dates the trace at the moment you create it, not at the moment the photo was taken. For an outing three weeks ago, start the comment with the real date: « August 14, outing to the Biodôme ». The comment is printed in the booklet and in the portfolio, so the date reads there.

And the « Temporary » folder afterwards?

If your pCloud account is connected to Traces, the app sends every added photo into École/Traces, filed by child, by grade and by subject, like a photo taken on the spot. So you have two copies: the one in « Temporary » is no longer needed, you can delete it.

If pCloud is not connected to the app yet, keep this folder: it is your only copy outside the phone. The guide for connecting pCloud takes about ten minutes.

If you do not use pCloud

Go through something else: an email you send to yourself, a chat with yourself in Messenger, a USB cable, another cloud. Traces asks for one thing only, that the photo be on your phone or in your Files app. pCloud is the fastest when your account is already doing the automatic filing.
